Icon of the Seas, the new titleholder of the world’s largest cruise ship, has finally arrived in Miami. The much-awaited ship made its debut in the city on Wednesday, and The Points Guy was one of the first media outlets to have the opportunity to explore the ship.
Although some areas of the vessel were still being worked on by contractors, much of the ship was ready to welcome guests. The ship features five new neighborhoods, each with its own unique theme and attractions. One of these neighborhoods is Surfside, which is designed with young families in mind. Here, parents can enjoy a resort-style pool and elevated casual dining, while their children can have fun splashing in water-play areas, riding a carousel, and exploring climbing structures.
Another neighborhood on the ship is Central Park, which is as green and serene as on the Oasis Class ships. In this area, guests can enjoy live music at Lou’s Jazz ‘n Blues or indulge in sushi and teppanyaki at Izumi. The Empire Supper Club is also located in Central Park, offering an intimate dining experience with an eight-course meal and live entertainment.
One of the most unique features of Icon of the Seas is the AquaDome, a neighborhood centered around an enhanced AquaTheater. This area boasts even more high-tech elements than its counterparts on the Oasis Class ships. Guests can dine at the Hooked Seafood Restaurant, shop for jewelry at the Oasis Bling store, or relax at The Overlook, a bar with lounge seating and breathtaking views.
Thrill Island is another exciting neighborhood on the ship, featuring the largest water park ever found on a cruise ship. Guests can enjoy six water slides, a ropes course, a rock-climbing wall, a surf simulator, and a ship- and plane-wreck themed mini-golf course. For those looking for a quick bite to eat, Basecamp offers comfort food such as pretzels, hot dogs, and tater tots.
Chill Island, on the other hand, is Icon’s version of a Lido or pool deck. Here, guests can relax by the Royal Bay, the largest pool in the fleet, or enjoy sea views at the Cove Pool. El Loco Fresh serves complimentary tacos and quesadillas, while The Lime and the Coconut offers cool and refreshing cocktails.
The Royal Promenade remains the Main Street of the ship, but on Icon, it feels much more spacious and light-filled thanks to walls of glass windows on both sides. The Pearl Café replaces Café Promenade as the ship’s all-day, all-night snack spot and coffee shop. Sorrento’s Pizza and Giovanni’s have also made a return on Icon of the Seas.
Despite the finishing touches still being put in place, the ship is expected to provide an unforgettable experience for guests. From its stunning public spaces to its luxurious suites, Icon of the Seas promises to be the most talked-about ship of the year. With its innovative neighborhoods and exciting attractions, it is sure to offer something for everyone.
