Delta Air Lines has announced a significant order of 20 new Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, with options for an additional 20 jets. This order is set to make the A350-1000 the largest aircraft in Delta’s fleet, surpassing any other jet currently operated by the airline. Deliveries of these new aircraft are expected to begin in 2026.
The A350-1000 is seen as a future staple of Delta’s long-haul network, offering a capacity of between 350 and 410 passengers, depending on the cabin configuration. This capacity is higher than any other jet currently operated by Delta, including the smaller A350-900 variant, of which the airline already has 28 in its fleet.
While Delta and Airbus have not disclosed the total price tag of this deal, it comes as a significant development for the airline. Delta CEO Ed Bastian described the addition of the A350-1000 as an important step forward for the carrier’s international expansion. He emphasized that the aircraft will offer an elevated customer experience, with more premium seats and best-in-class amenities, as well as expanded cargo capabilities.
One of the key advantages of the A350-1000 is its fuel efficiency, making it an attractive option for airlines considering new widebody aircraft. This aircraft is capable of flying ultra-long-haul routes and is expected to play a crucial role in Delta’s future fleet planning. Notably, Australia-based Qantas has also chosen the A350-1000 for its forthcoming longest-in-the-world routes from Sydney to New York and London.
In addition to the A350-1000 order, Delta has a significant number of other aircraft on its orderbook. This includes 16 additional A350-900s, bringing the total number of A350s in Delta’s fleet to 44. The airline also has orders for 284 narrow-body aircraft, indicating its commitment to fleet expansion and modernization.
This recent order of A350-1000 aircraft reflects Delta’s strategic focus on enhancing its long-haul capabilities and providing an exceptional travel experience for its passengers. With its larger capacity, fuel efficiency, and range, the A350-1000 is poised to play a pivotal role in Delta’s future operations. As the airline continues to invest in its fleet, passengers can look forward to more comfortable and technologically advanced travel options.
