Carnival Jubilee, Carnival Cruise Line’s newest ship and the third in the Excel Class, has a certain allure that is hard to ignore. During my brief visit to the ship, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the Center Stage Bar in the Grand Central zone. The bar, along with other dining venues and shops, was not open during my visit, but its midcentury modern meets ’80s neon vibe caught my attention. It reminded me of the influence of Joe Farcus, the interior designer and architect responsible for Carnival’s quirky decor for over 30 years.
The design of Carnival Jubilee is a unique blend of conflicting styles that surprisingly work well together. The ship pays homage to some of the fleet’s original vessels, and it seamlessly combines elements from previous decades with a modern flare. The pool deck, for example, transports you straight to the ’70s with its citrusy color scheme and vintage smokestack design. On the other hand, the theater in the Currents zone features technologically advanced LED screens that back singers and dancers, creating realistic animations of the Florida Everglades or Antarctica.
Throughout the ship, you’ll find a mix of timeless, neutral color palettes in the cabins and many of the restaurants, while the bars and lounges are adorned in eye-catching jewel-toned colors reminiscent of the ’80s and ’90s. It’s a kitschy but classy combination that adds unexpected and delightful charm to the ship.
One aspect of Carnival Jubilee that I particularly loved was the cabin layouts and new entertainment offerings. The cabins were well-designed and comfortable, providing a cozy retreat after a day of exploring the ship. The new entertainment options, such as the production show “Dear Future Husband,” were also impressive. Unlike some of Carnival’s previous shows, this production felt fresh and engaging, with talented performers and catchy songs.
However, it’s important to note that my experience on Carnival Jubilee was not typical. As one of only a few non-Carnival employees on board, many of the ship’s amenities and activities were not available during my visit. Live music, shops, and some restaurants were not open, and the regular daily programming was not offered. Therefore, my account is limited to the aspects of the ship that I could experience.
Despite these limitations, Carnival Jubilee left a lasting impression. The throwback design, with its mix of styles and vibrant color schemes, creates a fun and nostalgic atmosphere. The ocean theme that runs throughout the ship adds a touch of whimsy and connects passengers to the sea. And the new entertainment offerings bring a fresh and exciting energy to the onboard experience.
Whether you’re a fan of Carnival’s quirky decor or simply looking for a unique and enjoyable cruise experience, Carnival Jubilee is worth considering. With its blend of retro charm and modern amenities, it offers a memorable vacation for cruisers of all ages.
