Breeze Airways Expands its Map with Eight New Routes, Including San Diego
Breeze Airways, one of the newest U.S. airline startups, recently announced a significant expansion on the West Coast. The carrier will be adding a new pin and eight new routes to its map, with San Diego International Airport (SAN) serving as its latest destination. This expansion comes as part of Breeze’s strategy to build a network of nonstop routes to secondary cities that larger network carriers, such as American Airlines and United Airlines, don’t typically fly to.
The service at San Diego International Airport will commence on April 30, 2024, with flights to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina. Following this inaugural flight, Breeze will introduce routes to Jacksonville, Florida; Norfolk, Virginia; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the days that follow. San Diego will become Breeze’s fifth destination in California, joining Los Angeles, Orange County, San Bernardino, and San Francisco.
In addition to the new San Diego flights, Breeze Airways will also start flying between Westchester County, New York, and Raleigh-Durham; Cincinnati, Ohio, and Hartford, Connecticut; and Charleston, South Carolina, and Los Angeles, California. This expansion will bring Breeze’s total number of new routes to eight.
Breeze’s strategy to focus on secondary cities and underserved markets is evident in this expansion. By offering nonstop flights to these destinations, Breeze aims to cater to the needs of travelers who previously had limited options when it came to direct air travel. This approach sets Breeze apart from larger carriers and provides a unique value proposition to customers.
With the addition of the new San Diego routes, Breeze will enjoy a monopoly on four out of its five new flights. However, competition from other airlines may arise in the future. For example, Frontier Airlines plans to fly from San Diego to Pittsburgh during the upcoming summer season, according to Cirium schedules.
Breeze Airways has been relatively aggressive in scrapping flights that aren’t profitable. Therefore, while the new routes offer exciting opportunities for travelers, it’s important to remain aware of possible schedule changes in the coming months. Breeze’s commitment to profitability and efficiency ensures that the airline will continue to provide reliable service to its customers.
In terms of fares, Breeze is offering introductory prices starting at $59 each way. Additionally, the airline has launched a limited-time promotional sale, providing 35% off base fares for all round-trip travel. These offers make Breeze an attractive option for travelers looking for affordable and convenient flights to their desired destinations.
San Diego is a popular summer destination, known for its beautiful beaches, great food, and family attractions. Breeze Airways President Tom Doxey expressed excitement about adding service to San Diego, stating that it is the airline’s fifth destination in California and the 46th airport served nationally.
Overall, the expansion of Breeze Airways’ map with the addition of eight new routes, including San Diego, signifies the airline’s commitment to providing nonstop service to underserved markets. By offering affordable fares and convenient travel options, Breeze aims to cater to the needs of travelers looking for direct flights to secondary cities. As the airline continues to grow its network, it remains to be seen how profitable these new routes will be. However, for now, these additions provide exciting opportunities for travelers based in these cities who can enjoy the convenience of new nonstop service.
